State-owned alcohol retailer Alko has alerted customers to a fraudulent website using its branding to promote false discount offers. The company said the scam site imitates Alko’s official identity, including its name and logos, to mislead the public into believing it is affiliated with the national retailer.

According to Alko, the website advertises unusually large discounts that do not reflect the company’s actual pricing or sales practices. The links are being shared on social media platforms.

Chief Financial Officer Anton Westermarck said the company became aware of the scam after a customer contacted them earlier this week.

“The discounts on the products are so significant that they are not credible,” Westermarck said in an interview with Yle.

He added that Alko has reported the site and its advertisements to the authorities and requested their removal.

There have been no confirmed cases of customers falling victim to the scam.

Westermarck advised consumers to be cautious and check website addresses carefully when shopping online.

Alko stressed that its official website address contains no additional letters, characters, or modifications. Any variation from the standard URL should be treated with suspicion.

The company is not offering any special discount campaign online at this time and does not sell its products through third-party retailers.
