The price of spot electricity in Finland will rise sharply on Thursday, with evening consumption expected to be the most expensive in months.

Data from Nord Pool shows the highest rate will reach 33.9 cents per kilowatt hour between 19:00 and 20:00. Prices will remain high into the night, with 31.4 cents at 20:00, 22.6 cents at 21:00, and 16.6 cents in the final hour before midnight.

Morning and midday will also see elevated costs. At 09:00 the price will be 28.1 cents, while at noon it will still exceed 14 cents.

The average daily price will be 17.75 cents per kilowatt hour, more than triple Wednesday’s figure of 5.45 cents and almost nine times Tuesday’s 2.12 cents. The last time prices peaked this high was in early June.

The rise is linked to calm weather along Finland’s west coast, a key hub for wind power generation. Fingrid forecasts only a few hundred megawatts of output on Thursday, compared with a national capacity approaching 9,000 megawatts.

Consumers are advised to avoid energy-intensive activities such as sauna heating during peak hours between 19:00 and 21:00, when rates will exceed 30 cents.
