				Finland stays out of Nato’s new Ukraine arms scheme for now

Finland will not join a new Nato-led arms procurement scheme for Ukraine, according to Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen, who said the country remains committed to supporting Kyiv through its existing strategy.

The mechanism, known as the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), enables Ukraine to list urgent weapons needs. Nato countries can then coordinate funding or direct transfers, with equipment packages valued at around 500 million US dollars each.

Several Nordic countries have signed on, including Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Norwegian Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik said last week the system aims to accelerate delivery of critical supplies to Ukraine while reinforcing Nato’s role in European security.

Häkkänen, however, said Finland is focused on sourcing weapons domestically and is not currently planning to participate.
