This summer, Finnish music has taken center stage on the country’s airwaves, with six of the ten most-played songs on commercial radio stations being domestic hits. According to the latest summer statistics from copyright organization Gramex, local artists have not only secured the majority of top spots but have also introduced fresh tracks that have resonated strongly with listeners.

The most-played song of the summer was “Paremmin ku kukaan muu” by Benjamin and BESS, which was played an impressive 4,454 times between June and August.

Following closely were ANI’s “Jos puhutaan totta” and Mirella’s “Timanttei,” both of which garnered nearly 4,000 plays each.

Rounding out the top six were BEHM’s “Syntymäpäivä! (Vielä KRRAN Jee),” KUUMAA’s “Tuhoaisti,” and the collaboration between Ege Zulu and BEHM on “Tunnista tuntiin.” These tracks, all released either late last year or in 2024, have clearly struck a chord with the Finnish audience, dominating the airwaves during the summer months.

Kari Niemelä from Gramex, who compiled the statistics, expressed delight at the strong presence of new music on the airwaves. “It’s exciting to see that new releases have secured their place on playlists and are receiving such significant airplay,” Niemelä said.

In addition to the influx of new music, the prominence of domestic artists on the summer charts is noteworthy. “While typically around 35% of radio play is reserved for Finnish music, this summer, that figure has surged to 60% on the most-played list. It’s heartening to see such strong support for Finnish artists,” Niemelä added.

The summer playlist also included a few international hits, with Dua Lipa’s “Training Season,” Artemas’ “I Like The Way You Kiss Me,” David Guetta & OneRepublic’s “I Don’t Wanna Wait,” and Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” securing spots in the top ten. However, the clear dominance of Finnish music highlights the thriving local music scene, proving that homegrown talent continues to captivate audiences across the country.
