Finns donate one million kilos of clothing per month, UFF reports

Clothing donations to UFF reached nearly 12 million kilos across Finland in 2024, with residents of Hanko, Myrskylä, Karkkila and Lohja ranking as the most active recyclers in Uusimaa.
The non-profit textile collector reported a steady national donation rate, averaging one million kilos per month. While Uusimaa contributed the most clothing in absolute terms—nearly 2.4 million kilos—its residents lagged behind the national average in donations per capita.
Hanko topped the list in Uusimaa, with 4.3 kilos of clothing donated per resident. Myrskylä followed at 3.8 kilos, Karkkila at 3.6, and Lohja at 3.2. Across Uusimaa, the average donation was 1.4 kilos per person, below the national average of 2.2.
UFF’s clothing collection operates in 280 municipalities across Finland. Donation volumes were highest in Helsinki (608,000 kg), Espoo (357,000 kg), and Vantaa. Espoo saw the sharpest growth, with a 26% increase from 2023.
