Helsinki Airport has again been ranked the best airport in Northern Europe by passengers participating in the global Skytrax customer satisfaction survey. The announcement was made on 9 April at an award ceremony in Madrid.

The Skytrax survey, covering over 550 airports worldwide, evaluates various stages of the passenger experience, including check-in, security, transfers, and on-site services.

This year’s recognition marks the eighth time Helsinki Airport has claimed the top spot in the Northern Europe category.

Ulla Serlenius, Finavia’s Senior Vice President for Helsinki Airport, said the award reflects consistent quality and the airport’s reputation among international travellers.

“We’re proud that passengers have once again chosen Helsinki Airport as the best airport in Northern Europe,” Serlenius said. “The global survey widely assesses the level of service and the customer experience at airports at different stages of the passenger journey. It’s clear that Helsinki Airport has a strong position among the best airports.”

In the survey, travellers gave positive ratings for security processing, shopping and dining options, and services for both arriving and transfer passengers.

Finavia, the Finnish airport operator, has undertaken significant developments at Helsinki Airport in recent years. These include terminal upgrades, new lounges, restaurants, and enhanced digital services. A real-time security queue forecast feature on the airport’s website has been highlighted as a particularly useful addition by travellers.

“We develop the customer experience by listening to passengers’ wishes and observing trends. The very positive feedback we have received from our customers is proof of our success,” Serlenius added.

The airport also recently received an additional recognition from Airports Council International (ACI), winning the Best Airport in Europe in the 15–25 million passenger category. ACI, the global body representing airports, issues awards based on its Airport Service Quality (ASQ) programme, which similarly tracks customer satisfaction.

“I would like to warmly thank the entire Helsinki Airport work community for the work we do together to ensure smooth travel,” Serlenius said.

Helsinki Airport handled around 18.7 million passengers in 2024.
