One in three young people in Finland has postponed or given up the idea of having children due to concerns about the global security situation, according to a new survey commissioned by Nuorisoala ry.
The study found that the majority of Finnish youth believe the country’s security will deteriorate within the next five years.
The online survey, carried out by Norstat Finland, collected responses from more than 1,000 people aged 15 to 30.
When asked how Europe should respond to the current security challenges, women most frequently supported diplomatic efforts and the promotion of peace. Men were more likely to favour strengthening joint EU defence policies.
The findings suggest that security fears are increasingly influencing long-term personal decisions, including family planning.
