Smoke from large-scale wildfires in Canada is forecast to reach Finland by Saturday evening, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

The institute said the smoke had already moved across southern and central Sweden earlier in the day and would continue eastward into Finnish skies.

FMI experts said the smoke will remain in the upper layers of the atmosphere and is not expected to degrade air quality at ground level.

The presence of airborne particles could lead to more vivid sunsets in parts of the country. The effect occurs when smoke scatters sunlight, intensifying red and orange hues near the horizon.

The wildfires in Canada have burned across multiple provinces in recent weeks, producing plumes that have travelled thousands of kilometres across the Atlantic.

FMI said it will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates if conditions change.
