The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) has issued multiple weather warnings for Tuesday, including alerts for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and elevated forest fire risk across large parts of the country.

Warnings for severe thunderstorms and rainfall are in place for southern, central, and western Finland. In northern Finland, thunderstorm alerts apply widely, although the far northern municipalities of Enontekiö, Inari, and Utsjoki remain outside the warning areas.

The storm system moving across the country is expected to bring localised downpours, strong gusts, and possible flooding in low-lying urban areas. On Sunday, intense rainfall in Oulu led to street flooding, with areas such as Kansankatu temporarily submerged.

Forecasters say similar conditions may repeat in other parts of the country as the unstable weather system moves eastward.

In addition to thunderstorm warnings, FMI has issued forest fire alerts for several regions, particularly in eastern Finland. Dry surface conditions combined with occasional high temperatures continue to raise the risk of wildfires.

Heat warnings are also in effect for eastern Finland, where daytime temperatures are expected to remain elevated despite the unsettled weather. The heat, combined with the threat of lightning, has increased concern among emergency services.

Authorities have urged residents in affected regions to stay updated on local forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during the most intense weather periods. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, especially in areas where heavy rain may reduce visibility or cause road surface flooding.

Emergency services remain on standby in areas under severe weather alerts.
