Finland honoured 36 mothers on Sunday with the Medal of the White Rose of Finland, First Class with Golden Cross, in recognition of their exemplary contributions to family life and parenting.

The medals were presented at the national Mother’s Day celebration held at the Smolna Palace in Helsinki. The event was organised by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

The ceremony was attended by President Alexander Stubb and Suzanne Innes-Stubb, as well as Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso.

The honoured mothers were selected for their roles as model caregivers and advocates of strong family values. Among those awarded was a 99-year-old mother of eight, who raised her children while managing the responsibilities of a rural farm household. The youngest recipient, aged 40, is a mother of four who has promoted physical activity in everyday family life through local initiatives.

The Medal of the White Rose is one of Finland’s highest civilian honours and is occasionally awarded to private citizens for service to the nation. On Mother’s Day, the honour is reserved specifically for mothers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to child-rearing and community wellbeing.
