Finland’s national skills team returned from EuroSkills Herning 2025 with one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, along with seven honours for excellence. The European championships for vocational skills concluded on Saturday night in Denmark.

Eighteen Finnish competitors under the age of 25 took part in the three-day contest, which attracted 100,000 visitors. The competition featured trades ranging from welding and machining to fashion, cooking, and restaurant service.

Daniel Romi, representing Perho Culinary, Tourism and Business College, secured gold in the cooking category and was also named Finland’s top competitor with the Best of Nation award.

“It feels incredible,” Romi said after the win. “This took a lot of hours and hard work. Finland’s education system and my support team are excellent. I expected a strong result, but you can never predict how tough the competition will be.”

The silver medal went to Aleksi Laine from Eduko Vocational College in the Electronics Prototyping category. Inka Nurminen and Elja Saraluoto, competing as a pair from Salpaus Further Education, earned bronze in Fashion Design and Technology.

Seven competitors received the Medallion for Excellence for performances above the European average:

  • Aapo Paunonen (CNC Milling, SASKY)

  • Viljami Turve (Plumbing and Heating, Tredu)

  • Alexander Häggman (Cabinetmaking, Optima)

  • Erika Ukkonen (Pâtisserie and Confectionery, Sampo)

  • Niina Haka (Restaurant Service, Gradia)

  • Lauri Mutka (Welding, Savonia)

  • Ronja Kaupinsalo (Bakery, WinNova)

The competition, held every two years, is Europe’s largest vocational skills event. This year’s edition featured expert judges, including 19 Finnish professionals, many of whom are vocational teachers. Their work supports both training and evaluation.

Skills Finland, the organisation behind the national team, coordinates participation in European and global competitions with support from educational institutions and industry partners.

Finland will next take part in the WorldSkills championships in Shanghai in 2026. The Abilympics, a global vocational competition for professionals with special support needs, will be hosted in Helsinki in 2027. The next EuroSkills will take place in Düsseldorf that same year.
