Television broadcasts in parts of Finland will go dark for several hours on Tuesday due to maintenance at key transmission stations.
Operator Digita confirmed that work at its Tampere radio and television station requires a shutdown of antenna network TV signals for around four hours between 8:00 and 16:00. For safety reasons, radio transmissions will also run at reduced power, causing reception problems at the edge of coverage areas.
The disruption will affect viewers across Pirkanmaa and surrounding regions, including Virrat, Mänttä, Vammala, Kihniö, Ikaalinen, Parkano, Nokia, Kuhmoinen, Jämsä, Orivesi, Juupajoki and Ruovesi. A detailed map of the affected areas is available on Digita’s website.
The blackout concerns several channel groups:
– Multiplex B: Yle TV1 HD, Yle TV2 HD, MTV3 HD, Nelonen HD, Yle Teema & Fem HD
– Multiplex C: TV5 HD, Kutonen HD, TLC HD, STAR Channel HD, Hero HD, Frii HD, National Geographic HD
– Multiplex E: MTV Sub HD, Liv HD, Jim HD, MTV Ava HD, Alfa HD, Iskuri.net HD, One Way TV HD, VeikkausTV-19
Radio services impacted by the power reduction include Yle Radio Suomi Tampere, Yle Radio 1, YleX, Yle Radio Vega, Radio Nova and POP FM.
In North Karelia, Digita is also carrying out maintenance at the Kiihtelysvaara transmission site. There, TV signals will be cut for about two hours, while radio services will suffer short interruptions when the work starts and ends. Viewers in the area will lose access to Yle TV1 HD, Yle TV2 HD, MTV3 HD, Nelonen HD and Yle Teema & Fem HD.
Further maintenance is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, meaning additional temporary interruptions in TV and radio services later this week.
