Finland to mark 10th national Play Day with joy-themed events across the country

Finland’s national Play Day will return on Saturday 26 April with a renewed focus on joy. Celebrated for the tenth time this year, the event aims to remind people of all ages of the value of play during uncertain times. The theme, simply titled “Joy”, encourages Finns to embrace moments of fun, connection, and well-being through shared activities.
Organised by the Play Day Network and coordinated by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL), Play Day will feature dozens of free public events throughout the country.
Celebrations will take place on the day itself as well as throughout the preceding Play Week. Events are planned by a wide range of organisations, including MLL local chapters, libraries, museums, and churches.
“Even in dark times, this is someone’s childhood,” said Karolina Lamroth, Play Day Programme Coordinator at MLL. “Play builds hope. It creates space for recovery and helps young people stay grounded in daily life.”
