Southern Finland will face heavy rain and cooler conditions on Easter Sunday, following a brief spell of unseasonal warmth on Saturday, according to forecasts from the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).
On Saturday, temperatures exceeded 20 degrees Celsius in parts of the Helsinki region. But by Sunday morning, the weather had shifted, with thick cloud cover and rain pushing across southern areas of the country.
“There will be quite heavy rainfall across many areas in the south,” said Iiris Idoko, on-duty meteorologist at the FMI.
Clouds will prevent the sun from warming the region, with temperatures staying below 10 degrees Celsius throughout most of southern Finland. Flood warnings have been issued in parts of Southwest Finland and Kanta-Häme, especially in low-lying areas and roads.
Yle meteorologist Elina Suorsa said flooding is also possible in southern Satakunta and Western Uusimaa. Conditions in central Finland are expected to remain slightly warmer, with highs around 12 degrees.
In the north, temperatures will remain lower. The Oulu region will stay below 10 degrees, while in the northernmost parts of Lapland, daytime highs are not expected to rise above freezing.
Easter Monday will bring scattered showers to the south, though other parts of Finland may remain dry. Temperatures will continue to stay cool across the country.
