A 15-year-old boy died on Saturday evening after a car drove onto a restaurant terrace in the Tikkurila district of Vantaa. The incident followed a collision involving two vehicles at the nearby intersection of Talvikkitie and Hernetie.

According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 19:20. One of the vehicles struck a traffic pole, while the other veered off the road and crashed into the terrace of the Pizza Express Grill House.

Several people were on the terrace at the time. The boy, who was on the premises, was unable to escape and became trapped under the car. Bystanders and emergency personnel attempted resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another teenager who was also on the terrace managed to avoid injury by jumping out of the car’s path, police confirmed. No other physical injuries were reported.

The 22-year-old male driver of the car that entered the terrace has been taken into custody. Police are investigating the sequence of events that led to the crash. Initial suspicions include gross endangerment of traffic safety and gross negligent homicide. These charges may be revised as the investigation continues.

The Eastern Uusimaa Police Department stated that more information will be released once preliminary findings have been confirmed.

Officers are currently reviewing witness statements, CCTV footage, and technical evidence from the crash site. The terrace has been cordoned off, and the restaurant has suspended outdoor service until further notice.
